ENGLISH JOCKEY CLUBS NEW STEWARD The new junior steward of the English Jockey Club Sir Berkeley Sheffield Avas elected a member in 1913 and has kept a few horses in training Avith the muchliked Joseph Butters at Newmarket for some years but lias not so far had anything of much merit to carry his dark blue and yellow hoops dark sleeves yellow cap first registered in 1909 Tlie nearest he has so far come to securing a classic AVIS Avheii Seremond after once looking all over a Avinner ran third for the St Leger of 1913 which Night Hawk so inexplicably Avon by two lengths from White Magic who finished three lengths ahead of Sir Berkeleys son of Desmond which earlier in the year had managed to secure the Brighton Stakes and as a twoyearold won the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood Sir Berkeley is a really keen sportsman arid sound in his judgment so he should make an excellent steAvard By the Avay the statement in a contemporary that Lady Shef ¬ field is a sister to Baron Fraukie de Tuyll is in ¬ correct she being his first cousin The first race Sir Berkeley secured was the Manor Plate Avith Bezant at AVindsor on August 12 1910
