GOOD SPORT AT BELMONT Succession of Close Contests Delight a Good Sized Crowd Neglected Bellsolar Wins NEW YORK X Y June G Belmont Parks Monday afternoon of racing was sound formfnl and good lo see It was hot in town At Belmont a cool northwest wind blew across the horses as they ran aiding them through the rear stretch and rather impeding them in their run home But it was generally pleasant withal and eight or nine thousand folks were out and enjoyed the good sport sportThere There was no stake on the program but the fields in the six races were well balanced and some excellent finishes came out of it all There was a succession of close contests Perhaps the best bit of interesting contention turned up in the Centreport Handicap at a mile run as the fourth race Five of the eleven entries stayed away Six were left The merchants on the lawn thought and the public agreed Capt Alcock was best in the Centreport He was heavily hacked by the wiseacres at short prices and closed as an oddson favorite Servitor was backed too So was Ro ¬ many Neddam wasnt Neither was Ilobey Baker long laid up or William Martins old reliable and middle aged dark bay mare Bellsolar much longer than her not short owner and with as much of a liking for a route as that astute Southerner SouthernerBellsolar Bellsolar u a pretty handy racing tool The mile vas accounted as too short for her fancy and she drifted from 4 to 1 to 7 to 1 in speculation over the race raceBellsolar Bellsolar had Master Callahan up They are old acquaintances and understand one another quite well Captain Alcock and Servitor went to the front early and stoutly and raced together in the lead to the stretch Bellsolar ran as she usually does A quarter out she was a dozen lengins In the rear and made up but littlo of that as the class of the con ¬ testants though the finish was a nice one Sande did as much for Ivernian as riding skill could do Ivernian must be one of those horses which tells lies to his trainer in
