January — bill in so far as the house of representatives is concerned, is still in abeyance, though it has been introduced in the senate and will be heard by the committee- a week fcom tomoireiw. is due to the fact that the propounders of the mea-ure had intended to have i: introduced in the house by I Republican and in the senate by a Democrat. The house Republicans sometime ago. it has been learned, came to an understanding to hold up nieas- - area directed at the blue grass section until they could learn the attitude of the majority toward the c-eial producing section, whieh is mainly Republican. - and also on partisan bills aimed by the Democratic legislature at Louisville, which is a Republican city. It has developed thnt there is no serious intention by the Democrats to try to force a tonnagp tax on coal through the house, though an effort will be made to scale the assessments on some of the coal counties up which will not be resisted I by the Republicans to anything like the extent that I tliey would oppose a Tonnage tax. Finding the house Republicans not inclined to i push an anti-racing measure at this time, the ■ backers of the movement against the sport may ■ turn their attention to the Democrats in the lower • branch. a
