TO SEE DUETTISTE IN GRAND NATIONAL NEW YORK. N. Y., February 27.— J. E. Widener. whose veteran jumper, Duet I isle, will, bar accidents, run in the Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase March 21, plans to sail for England March 11. lie will probably be accompanied by his steeplechase trainer, .1. Howard Lewis, who developed Duettiste in this country. Lewis is anxious to see his old favorite perform in the big English jumping classic. Trainer Escott, who has the Widener jumper in charge at Ia-wos, England, is quoted as saying that Duettiste is one of the best jumpers he ever handled and his son Anthony, whose experience with English steeplechasers is also wide, is much impressed with the veterans quality. Both have declared Duet-tistes chances in the big event second to none. This is praise indeed for the old American geldings quality. Escott trained Poethlyn. which ranked as a champion in bis day — 1918 and 1919. In 1918 Poethlyn won the Gatwiek substitute Grand National Steeplechase and in 1919 was first in the real thing at Aintree. for whieh he was the shortest priced favorite to ever win the Euglish jumping "Blue Riband." «
