STRENUOUS SPORTING FEATS English Turf and Hunting Men Find Pleasure in Long Riding Jaunts. A keen hunting man in the North of Kuglaud has lately been credited with having ridden horseback forty miles to ;t meet, following the bounds from start to finish, and riding home again the same evening, after enjoying one of the most exciting runs of the season. The feai. however, hardly bears comparison with that of Sir Claude Champion de Crespigny, who once rode sixty-two miles to a meet, or Iyird Lueensborry. who. after hunting all day with Lord Wcmyss hounds, rode the 102 miles that separated him from his home, and actually went out the next day for a run with his own pack. Equally notable was the exploit of A. Lubbock, the Kentish cricketing amateur. He rose one morning for a run with a Bach of harriers, enjoying good sport until breakfast time. A hastily-swal-lowed meal was fol lowed - a change of clothes and B gallop of fifteen miles to a meet of the Surrey foxhounds. Tbete then ensued a run of several miles, in the course of which this enthusiastic sportsman encountered a stag, the quarry of the Surrey staghounds. He promptly joined the latter chase, which provided a run to llorley. twelve miles distant. A ride home of thirty-three miles ended the days sport. Another extraordinary riding feat was that performed by a sportsman named owner Thornhill. who rode from Stilton in Huntingdonshire to Shore-ditch Church and back, and thence back to London. in twelve and a quarter hours. The distance is some 110 miles. The same church figured in another great equestrian feat. This was undertaken by Bernard Calvert of Andover, who rode from Shoreditch, London, to Dover, cross-d to Calais in a barge, returned to Dover anil rode back to Ijondon. where he arrived at S oclock the same evening. — Tit Bits.
