The latter slipped through on the inside when entering the stretch and made a game finish. AMRLER was a forward eontander throughout and finished fastest of all. VIR-GINIUS began very slowly and came extremely wide when entering the stretch and lost ground. Won easily; second and third driving. OIL MAN raced into the lead in the first eighth and, setting a fast pace, was hard ridden all the way and, outstaying PIRATE GOLD, won going away. PIRATE GOLD was the closest contender for the entire race and moved up gamely into a slight lead in the stretch, but tired in the final drive. HEPHAISTOS, off slowly, steadily improved his position and outfinished JUNE GRASS. The latter raced close up in the early running, but tired finally. RAY JAY retired after going well for a half mile. BRIDESMAN raced under restraint until rounding the last turn, then gradually improved his position and easily out-finished the others. WILD HEATHER saved ground on the turns and outstayed RALCO. THUNDERCLAP followed the leaders for the first three-quarters under restraint, then moved up steadily when called cn and, wearing the leaders down in the final eighth, was hard ridden at the end. LITTLE CHIEF set a fast early pace and raced FRIGATE into defeat, then outstayed FLANNEL SHIRT in the final drive. FLANNEL SHIRT, in close quarters for three-quarters, came through the stretch witli a rush and made a game finish. FRIGATE lost ground in the final quarter and was not persevered with when beaten. The last four at the start had no chance.
