SAN FRANCISCO, Cal., December 19. Although the familiar burnt orange and silks of John H. Rosseter, proprietor Wikiup Rancho, near Santa Rosa, will te seen on the eastern tracks next year, "boss" of the picturesque stud establishment by no means has given up his interest the thoroughbred. "Breeding is one thing and racing another," said Mr. Rosseter today, in discussing his plans. He wants to make even more a success than ever of the rearing of high-class winners. That is the only reason not having a string on the big courses year, according to his announcement. The master of Wikiup is taking the keenest interest in the thoroughbreds from the home place being raced at Tijuana under to John Crane. Supercargo, Dolores the others began to win on the metropolitan circuit almost immediately after Crane took them under his "wing," with the veteran jockey Chris Kirschbaum doing the training. "Chris" rode John H. Sheehan, Byronerdale and other well-remembered ones Crane at Emeryville and other coast tracks. There is not the slightest doubt that Supercargo is "cut out" for a performer of highest class. Only for setbacks in preparation he would have taken brackets much earlier in his career. As it was, 1 is maiden victory came at Empire City in the Supercargo is a finely formed chestnut by Friar Rock, dam the Dinna Forget maro Sweet Marjoram. He has much the same blood in his veins as the noted stall ir.n Sunstar, so well known in this country through the achievements of horses brought from England by Walter Jennings for A. K. Macomber six years ago. Dinna Forget, maternal grandsire of the Rosseter colt, is a son of Loved One, and Dinna Forgets dam. Rose Marjoric, is by Rosebery. Sunstars sire Sundridge is a grandson of Rosebery, and his dam Doris a daughter of Loved One. When Supercargos racing days are over probably he will he given opportunities in the stud sim- by reason of similarity of his lines Sunstar, sire of Buchan, Star Hawk, Sun- bonnet and scores of other good ones. The value placed on Friar Rock is clearly indicated by the high stud fee asked by owners, Messrs. Madden and Rossetc. and sons of the Rock Sand horse, especially those that show brilliant form in racing, such as Inchcape and, as seems probable, Supercargo, will be more highly considered time goes on.
