AUSTRALIAN RACING WAYS In Australia it is customary to spread a four days meeting over eight days. Thus the first day at Melbournes Flemington course spring meeting is on Saturday, the second, when the Cup is run for, on Tuesday, the third on Thursday and the fourth on Saturday. This system has much to commend it, for horses, if really well, can run on all four days without being unduly taxed, and there is nothing to prevent the Derby horses of Saturday pulling out again for the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday all the better for their earlier gallop.
