FEYLANCE IS VICTORIOUS Scores Another Triumph for J. K. L. Ross at Tijuana. Jockey 31. Falor Hides Three "Winners and Keeps "Within Striking Distance of Lang Arjanna by Nose. SAN DIEGO, Cal., December 30. Conceding weight to every thoroughbred that went to the post with him, off in front and holding the advantage at every post, Feylance, the handsome three-year-old son of Assagai, scored another feature victory for the Commander J. K. L. Ross stable at Tijuana yesterday afternoon, winning the Prorero Handicap of one mile. Feylance shouldered his 117 pounds like a major and never left the result in doubt. He convinced the big crowd that he is quite some colt, for he finished out the journey with speed in reserve. Running closest to him at the end was Supercargo, which might have made it interesting for the winner had ho started to better advantage. That son of Friar Rock dwelt at the barrier and the field was in motion before he elected to take his fuH stride. In consequence he was far back during the early running, but he showed his metal by making up the lost ground. Rounding the last turn he got within striking distance of Feylance, but jockey Claver, astride of the latter, only had to let out a wrap and the J. K. L. Ross equine bounded away from him with the utmost case. Alle-den, a sort of an obscure racing tool, was best of the others, but Finished eight lengths behind Supercargo. The sport opened with an upset when Little Pointer, with jockey IL Long in the saddle, took the measure of Harry Rudder and the favorite. Thirty Seven. The finish was one to please the eye, as the trio passed the finish lapped onto one another. Jockey M. Fator and F. G. Corley were the winning combination in the second, at five and a half furlongs. The crack lightweight apprentice got his mount away speedily and taking him to the front he led from the barrier to the end. However, at the finish the horse was doing his best, as Neg was pressing him hard. Kimono took the small end of the purse, but had jockey Pevic not lost so much ground by coming wide turning for home that filly might have been closer up. ATIIANXA BY INCHES. It was the odds-on choice Athanna, and again jockey M. Fator, that showed the way in the third, another dash of five and a half furlongs. Again the midget rider was forced to ride with all his skill, as the despised outsider El Roble, with jockey Ed Dugan aboard, was wearing the filly down with every stride. Finishing in third place was Sir Leonid, which dropped from the clouds to take what was left of the purse. Grace E., carrying the purple and white colors of George Mayberry, was supported in the sixth as if it was "all over but the shouting," and after showing much speed she was forced to succumb to the challenge of Little Beach, which, with Fator in the saddle, beat her by a whisker on the post in one of the most thrilling finishes of the afternoon. Another nose verdict was the result of the concluding dash when Aryanna lasted long enough to catch the eye of the judges from She Devil and July Fly. These three finished as one horse and not until the official numbers had been displayed was the winner assured. The horses owned by George P. Fuller, the j wealthy San Francisco sportsman, who races under the nom de course of the Bronx Stable, will be transferred from Imperial Beach, where they have been training on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, to Tijuana today. Those in the string which will come across the- border are Be Frank, Sunnyland, Dough Girl and Wild Heather. Trainer Harry Unna, who has them in charge, reports that Be Frank is still far from a race, but that the others are about ready to be seen under colors. SPECIAL FOR JANUARY 7 Manager J. P. Atkin is trying to arrange a tempting race for Sunday, January 7. He has offered a purse of ,000, if he can bring together the horses Fairway, John Paul Jones, Carabosse, Rebuke, Crystal Ford, Tailor Maid and Georgie. The race, if it can be arranged, will be at one mile, all to carry 100 pounds. Yesterday was the first day in many that C. B. Irwin failed to win at least one purse. No change in the standing of jockeys M. Fator and Chick Lang in their race for the saddle honors of the year can be recorded tonight. Each rode three winners, and inasmuch as Lang was leading Fator by four mounts before the program of yesterday he still holds first place by this narrow margin. Jockey Ralls is spending a five-day enforced vacation on the ground by order of starter Harry Morrissey. C. C. McCafferty, the veteran horseman, who saddled Dr. Leggo in the Burns Handicap years ago, has voiced his intentions of again entering the ranks of owners. He is Continued on Second 1age, Parg"Ce. FEYLANCE IS VICTORIOUS Continued from First Page, Tart One. on the lookout for some likely youngsters and has made a liberal offer for a yearling colt, owned by A. Neal, by Atheling II., out of Purse Rose. Manager J. P. Atkin has ordered the erection of two new barns to lake care of the horse3 that are coming from New Orleans after the completion of the Fair Grounds meeting to fill their stake engagements. William St Vincent is a recent arrival here. He has entirely recovered from an attack of yellow jaundice, which played havoc with his system last summer while he was racing his horses in Kentucky. The good horse Rebuke, from the J. IC. Li. Ross string, is going along well and trainer H. McDaniel will no doubt send him post-ward in the ?20,000 New Tears Handicap, at one and one-sixteenth miles. C. B. Irwin has despaired of getting Rifle to the post this year. The horse has a bad ! ankle and his owner has let up on his j training and will send him back to his farm at Cheyenne, Wyo., to be turned out.
