FAIR GROUNDS TODAY Wonderful Meeting in Prospect at Noted New Orleans Track Star Field Named for New Years Handicap Crowd of Record Breaking Size Expected NEW ORLEANS La December 31 The coming of the New Year will be celebrated in the Crescent City on a more pretentious scale than every before judging by the elaborate preparations made at the various hotels and places of amusements Among horsemen and admirers of racing there will be many a toast to the success of the Fair Grounds meeting that begins tomorrow Cer ¬ tain it is never in the history of the Business Mens Racing Associations were conditions more auspicious for a wonderful meeting For the first time since the sport was re ¬ vived here in 1914 the local community has unlimited confidence in the personnel of the directors of the association Following the legislative storm all members of the old board resigned and in their places men prom ¬ inently identified with the social and business life of New Orleans were elected President John Dymond who was selected to head the association is one of the most prominent at ¬ torneys of trie state andhimself alnember of the legislature as well as a close personal friend of Governor John M Parker ParkerPERSONNEL PERSONNEL OF DIRECTORS DIRECTORSThe The vicepresident of the association is Sir B C Casanas former president of the Chamber of Commerce as well as a prom ¬ inent clubman Others on the board include Crawford H Ellis vicepresident of the Unit ¬ ed Fruit Company and president of the New Orleans Country Club W H Brill general agent of the Illinois Central Railroad Wil ¬ son Williams prominent in local club circles anil general agent of the New England Life Insurance Company Louis Hausmann presi ¬ dent of the largest jewelry establishment in the city James D Kenny president of the Montleone Hotel Company C A Hartwell president of Hartwell Company and V H Demourelle president of James Demourelle SonsFor Sons For the last two months assistant manager managerT T L Lemarie who was appointed to succeed succeedlobert lobert S Eddy in the active management f the plant has had workmen engaged in inutting utting the Fair Grounds in order It is now nowne ne of the most beautiful racing plants in inhe he country and will certainly be a pleasant pleasantsurprise surprise to the big crowd that will journey to toliie liie course tomorrow tomorrowThe The entire infield of the plant is to be i mverted into a ninehole golf course in tne plans of the new directorate Work on this has already been started and will help to beautify the course for the opening Flor ¬ ets have been at work for the last month set ing out flower beds and tendlrtg the lawns Because of the better feeling toward the management by the local public great crowds ire expected at the course this year The jurist travel to New Orleans is expected to o heaviest in years and with a continuance f the almost summerlike weather which has prevailed in New Orleans since the winter onths set in record crowds are expected expectedWEALTH WEALTH OF RACING MATERIAL MATERIALThe The class of horses at the local course is nigher than ever before Some of the best thoroughbreds of the country are wintering h re and may be seen in action before the TV Cling closes More horses than ever before ir located at the Fair Grounds and stall room is at a premium many owners being forced to stable outside of the grounds groundsRacing Racing secretary Joseph McLennan has prepared a particularly Inviting program for the inaugral days racing The New Years Handicap at one mile and a sixteenth is tlio stellar attraction and the entry list for his contest has a metropolitan aspect Witli such good horses as Best Pal Tippity Witch tt Comic Song William A Copper Deirian Billy Barton Maximac Sir Thomas KeaH und others among the overnight acceptances t e prospects are that the great New Years gathering will be entertained with a contest onc to be remembered 11 the other races have large fields named start in them the contestants being well marched and capable of providing interesting interestingm m spirited sport sportG G D Bryan Jr who presides over Jeffer r m Park left for Toronto Ont today todayBon Bon Hommc one of the stars of the Xala irarm Stable has entirely recovered from I s recent illness and will soon be back in i Hive training again VHHam Perkins whose horses have been rr for some time in charge of trainer Al lomas was an arrival from Lexington Ky
