BUSY AT LOUISVILLE Cold Weather Fails to Retard Training Operations Whiskaway in a Fast Gallop of ofThree Three Quarters in 115 Exterminator Coming1 LOUISVILEE Ky April 1 The training colony at Churchill Downs was busy this morning regardless of recordbreaking cold weather for this season of the year Thu sun shone bright and the track was at its best however for training purposes purposesActuary Actuary the Dick Finnell Alice Baird colt turned in the fastest mile to date of any of the Derby eligibles when he galloped once around the track in 1 45 25 The black brother of Marjorie Hynes and Coyne covered the first quarter in 24 35 half in 51 and threequarters in 1 17 35 35Park Park Hill II E Vickerimms intended colcr bearer in the Derby was given a good gal ¬ lop when he worked the quarter in 2 the half in 52 15 threequarters in 113 15 and mile in 146 45 Both Actuary and Park Hill are being trained by Peter Coyne CoyneLord Lord Granite and Blue Stone the Louch heim Derby candidates were worked together They were not hurried at any stage of the threequarters which was turned in 1 2l Lord Granite is the best He is said to bu the choice of the stable for Derby honors and has been backed heavily in the future books Slim Ownbey is training these two colts coltsAlice Alice Blue Gown and Miss Mullins worked together fiveeighths in 1 05 45 Chittagong and Flowers of Love in the same stable were worked together The timers caught the latter two in 25 25 52 25 1 19 153 These are the Derby eligibles from the barn oC J O and G H Kcene and are being trained by Ham Keene KeenerilAVUS rilAVUS GOKS A 31 IIK IIKPravus Pravus was sent a mile by Dr C L Richards his new trainer He worked lltu first quarter in 25 25 half in 52 35 three quarters in 1 19 15 and mile in 1 47 45 45W W L Martins Derby eligible Valadtr turned in a creditable threequarters in 11S 25 25Prince Prince K was sent threequarters in com ¬ pany with Commander McMeekin The Mar ¬ shall colt showed a good workout and pulled up at the end in 1 1S 15 15The The most impressive gallop of the morn ing was that of Whiskaway While the 125 000 colt had never been sent in earnest tills season he seemed to sense that he was going to be called upon to go fast when trainer George Barnes adjusted the blinkers on him just before the work He was obdurate until the blinkers were removed After quieting him down the blinkers were again placed over his head He covered the track in com ¬ pany with Tom Hare Jr and ran the first quarter in 23 5 half in 43 45 and pulled up the threequarters in 115 155 155Another Another fast move was that of King Gorin II and Dobson twoyearolds being trained by Peter Coyne These two colts ran as a team for a half mile the stop watches reg istering 50 fiat fiatIn In Memoriam was sent a mile at DouglaK Park He was never extended at any part of the workout covering the quarter in 25 lf half in 52 15 threequarters in 1 18 25 and finished the mile in 1 4S 4SGreat Great Jaz another Derby eligible from the same stable was galloped seveneighths in 1 34 34Superintendent Superintendent Tom Young received orders today from John I Smith former trainer for the late II II Hewitt and recently employed as trainer for W S Kilmer to reserve lw lv stalls for the Kilmer horses which will be shipped here shortly Exterminator Sallys Alley and Sunference will be included in tils shipment shipmentE E i H T K i x jo i s H o 1 1 s i s Eighteen of the Montfort Jones horses ready for racing will be sent to Douglas Park next week according to advices received here today This will comprise the western division of the Jones horses The easHern division of this stable will include some thirty head headGeorge George Strate formerly connected with 1 the Wikiup Ranch Stud owned by J H Rossiter was at the Downs today seeking some horses with which he plans to start a racing stable of his own this year yearRumor Rumor has it that Bright Tomorrow is the one best bet of the E R Bradley stable It is said that Mr Bradleys two goou fillies Blossom Time and Betty Ueall win IK all Kent from the Derby From the same source comes the word that Chittagong will be the main dependence of the Keene brothers for the Derby and that Alice Blue Gown will be reserved for the Oaks i artmry Bush and Cherry Pie are said to bo the most favored ones of the numerous Greentroe Stable nominations for the Derby J S Cos den is said to favor Martingale for the Ken ¬ tucky Derby and Dunlin for the Preaknosr Stakes Future betting operations seem to Lear out these rumors
