MISTAKEN IDENTITY IN CASE OF TWO FILLIES SAX DIEGO, Calif.. April 20.— A case of confusion of names between two fillies in the hand of twenty-four head of home bred young horses sent to Tijuana by Mr. Rudolph Sprockets has been straightened out with the result that the purse awards in the races in which the three-year-olds, running as Taxation, have been considerably altered. The two concerned were the fillies by Liberty Loan from Anna Men and lathtinls. foals of 1921. The Anna Mea filly is named Can-! cellation and the other Taxation. Like all ! the band they were broken very late and neither had ever started till the present meeting. The real Taxation has run three times without success, but in the name of Cancellation, while Cancellation herself won two purses and was twice third in the name of Taxation. As a result of the comparison of the markings of the pair which originated | with Mr. Spreckels himself the records will now show that Taxation is still a maiden. The performances credited to Taxation are ■ now credited to Cancellation and as she was j ineligible because, of incoi reet description ; she can have no share in the purse money, ! which Mr. Spreckels directed should be re-| turned to the club. The amount is 60. j which is awarded to the horses that finished i in ord r behind the supposed Taxation. Though the error iw not considered to be due to the trainer he is the one held responsible under the rules of racing and a fine of |100 has been imposed by the stew-wards.
