NEW TRACK FOR ST LOUIS Saint Louis Downs Selected as asName Name for New Plant to Be BeErected Erected in Near Future EAST ST LOUIS 111 May 19 Saint Louis Downs is the name selected for the newest race course to be built in the near vicinity of this city Formal announcement was made today by the law firm of Keefe OConnor Listeman that Arthur N Elrod of Louisville Ky has completed plans for the construction of a new plant to cost more than 1000000 Several sites are under option and final selection will be made within the next few days daysAssociated Associated with Mr Elrod in the construe tion of the new track it is said will be a number of prominent St Louisians Com ¬ pletion of the new track will give St Louis and the surrounding territory two tracks of the first class as Fairmount Park already is in operation Mr Elrod stated that he is associated with a company that recently re ¬ ceived a charter from the state of Illinois in the name of the Illinois Breeders Associa ¬ tion In addition to local capitalists there will be associated with Mr Elrod the owners of several tracks in Canada and Ohio OhioThe The name selected by Mr Elrod for the new plant is Saint Louis Downs and a fall meeting will most likely be held Appli ¬ cation to the Illinois turf governing body will be made immediately and racing will be conducted under their rules and auspices Offices for the new company will be opened in the Metropolitan Building in East St Louis within a few days
