STEEPLECHASE NOTES James W Gerard who was recently elected a member of the race committee of the United Hunts Racing Association has always been a keen devotee of steeplechasing both in this country and abroad Some years ago he rode across country George Herbert Bostwick or Pete as he is called by his friends has been at Aiken since last autumn in the saddle almost every day playing polo hunting or helping in the schooling of the jumpers in training there He is fit and plans to come North in time to ride in some of the early spring meetings in Maryland Virginia Pennsylvania and New York He has a few horses of his own With riding for his brother A C Bostwick ftis sister Mrs Robert V McKim and Mr and Mrs F Ambrose Clark there will be few events of importance in which one of the family will not be represented representedAt At the Sanford Stock Farms at Amsterdam N Y Hollie Hughes is training the jumpers Patroon Rudolf Thracian Tourist No Moss Red Spruce and Red Rocket James Ker math a son of John T Kermath is doing most of the schooling and will do the riding for the stable when they are ready to start startJames James Simpson Jr of Chicago who was seriously injured in a fall with Kitchener last nrtumn at the meeting of the Essex Fox Hounds is again on the active list He rode Olga at Middleburg Va last week wearing the silks of his wife green gold horseshoes green cap
