WINS FIRST FOR NEW OWNER podie Leighton Leads All Way to toScore Score for 0 0 Wood at Riverside Park KANSAS CITY Mo June 23 Dodie Leigh ton making her first start in the colors of O O Wood furnished a mild surprise when she led for the entire five and onehalf fur ¬ longs of the first race E H Prues Bessie V was second and The Engineer from the sta ble of H Torriente earned the third portion of the purse The winner was immediately sent into the lead and saved ground while opening up and at no stage of the race was in danger Bessie V raced in second posi tion throughout and easily saved the place from The Engineer The latter was easily best of the others othersVladimir Vladimir from the stable of Shipp Mack en hung up his third consecutive victory when he led holne Gleaming Star by a short halflength in the second event This was contested over the futurity distance Texas Longhorn saved third for his owner A Hagen Vladimar was sent into a good lead when straightened out on the back stretch and this stood him in need as he was tiring rapidly at the end and doing his best to hold the fast closing Gleaming Star safe Texas Longhorn was a keen factor throughout and made a game bid to overhaul the first two in the stretch but was not good enough Bobby Duncan was a contender in the early running but was in close quar ters on the inside and had to be eased back approaching the stretch turn when he lacked racing room roomTodays Todays racing at Riverside Park was staged under ideal conditions although the weather was extremely hot A cool breeze from the north made it comfortable in the stands
