PHILDIA SHOWS FINE SPEED Wins Again at Detroit and Equals FiveEighths Record Trumpery Also Makes It Two Victories at atMotor Motor City Record WeekDay WeekDayCrowd Crowd on Hand DETROIT Mich May 23 Mrs M Wein ers Phildia scored his second stake victory here and the seventh in twelve starts when he lasted to beat the Fair Fields Stables Try Sympathy at the end of five furlongs in the St Glair Stakes which headed a bril ¬ liant program offered at Detroit this after ¬ noon noonA A A Baronis Hardatit which interfered with Try Sympathy at two different stages of the race was third In running the five furlongs in 59 the winner equalled the track record for the distance which was established by Blackbirder on the opening day The Greentree Stables Up and Up was fourth with Fraidy Cat Old Nick and Ten Law completing the distance in the order named Although Hardatit was the first under way Charley Landolt soon had the winner in the van and while he was setting a good pace Hardatit and Try Sympathy were aligned with the latter on the inside Ap ¬ proaching the far turn Hardatit came over sharply and at the turn into the home stretch the latter again impeded the Fair Fields racer After finding room Try Sym ¬ pathy came with a rush and the finish found him threequarters of a length back of the winner and a length and a half be ¬ fore Hardatit which beat Up and Up by three lengths lengthsSlow Slow to begin Fraidy Cat was taken to the outside and this disadvantage proved too great and he was unable to menace the leaders leadersThe The stake was worth 1900 to Mrs Weiner while the second award was 400 third 150 and fourth 50 50With With a return of fast footing and with ideal conditions prevailing for the sport the largest weekday crowd of the meeting was on hand handThe The Hal Price Headley stable furnished its second winner when Big Beau was an easy victor in the Ann Arbor Handicap that supported the stakes Sea Fox after lead ing until well in the stretch was second with Law Suit third thirdAlthough Although beginning fastest of all Big Beau was allowed to drop back in the run to the back stretch but when Joe Jacobs called on the Headley representative he came with a rush that carried him inta second place in the stretch From there on he wore down Law Suit and Sea Fox to lengthsTen beat the latter by two lengths Ten threeyearolds a majority of which are eligible for the Detroit Derby tested their sprinting ability in the Lansing Purse the fourth race and one of the three prin cipal races on the splendid program offered It resulted in a victory for the C V Whit ney colors when Trumpery scored his sec ond consecutive success of the meeting At the end of the five and a half furlongs dash the son of Sir Gallahad III and Panta ette was half a length before the Tranquility Farms Rock X which beat Dixianas Our Sailor by two lengths While Trumpery and Rock X raced on I Continued on twentyfifth page
