FAVORITES HAVE BIG DAY Public Choices Win Majority of Races at Fairmount Park Burley Parke Furnishes Winner of Main MainRace Race In Recently Acquired Terrain OddsOn Choice COLLINSVILLE 111 May 29 Without a feature for the second straight day the card of eight races was given over to platers at Fairmount Park and the fifth race or Riverview Purse a claiming affair for threeyearolds and over at a mile and seventy yards in which seven started was the best offered by racing secretary R A Leigh The winner was furnished by B Parke who saddled his newly acquired Ter ¬ rain for her first victory under the Parke silks R T Watts Transbird was second a length behind the winner with W E Turn ¬ ers Popo third a neck back backApprentice Apprentice C Rollins had the mount on the daughter of Terry and Alice Harris and rode the Parke representative perfectly The winner had the most speed with Transbird racing a length and a half behind her for the first half mile Turning into the stretch Transbird moved up within a length of the winner but Rollins had saved some speed with his mount and reaching the final eighth the winner came away into a two lengths lead In the final fifty yards the daughter of Terry began to tire and Trans bird and Popo began to gain with the latter going the fastest The Break second choice in the betting was well up for three quar ¬ ters and began to show signs of tiring enter ¬ ing the stretch stretchThe The winner was the first oddson choice to score at the meeting and in accounting for the Riverview made it three winning efforts out of four starts for the year yearThe The weather was warm again today with a much larger crowd on hand than Monday Favorites were successful four in the first five races being able to win for the form players playersAbility Ability to save ground along with a good ride failed to earn victory for A Castins Lugen Luggage in the opener when he was beaten by a nose by the veteran Vladimir in the final strides of a stretch duel Portco dine was third three lepgths in the rear Lugen Luggage went to the front going down the back stretch with Judge Dixon and Demagogue following the Castin four yearold H Manifold who had the mount on Vladimir was content with a position on the outside of the leaders and after reach ¬ ing the far turn came to the outside enter ¬ ing the stretch and gaining on the tiring Lugen Luggage with every stride finally got up in the final strides stridesNine Nine of the older division met at six fur ¬ longs in the second race and the winner turned up in W C Thurgoods Donate the second straight favorite to triumph Bag o Roses was second and Wild Dreams saved the show showLittle Little Fred had the speed going down the back stretch and was closely followed by Val J and Donate with Bag o Roses racing in fourth position Little Fred quit badly after a quarter and Val J made the pace opening up a good lead turning into the stretch with Bag o Roses following and Donate still racing in third position In the Stretch Val J showed signs of being short and when he quit Bag o Roses moved to the front for a few strides only to re ¬ linquish the position to Donate during the last sixteenth The winners margin was threequarters of a length at the finish finishSouthland Southland Belle carrying the silks of Mrs W Phillips and making her second start of the year won a hardearned victory in the third race when she defeated Brown Polly Kanal and six others at six furlongs furlongsBrown Brown Polly had the most speed and un ¬ der good rating was able to maintain her head advantage until reaching the last six ¬ teenth when Mamie D and Kanal passed her In the last twenty yards when there was a general closing up Mamie D dropped back beaten when the Phillips representa ¬ tive came through the pack to earn her vic ¬ tory going away Brown Polly held on to garner the place a length in advance of Kanal KanalThere There was much crowding throughout the race and several contenders suffered from mild interference interferenceGunwale Gunwale which races for E K Bryson equalled the track record made by Petit Pan in 1928 when the son of Constitution defeated Deep Sally Tipover and five other maiden twoyearolds in the fourth race over four and a half furlongs It was the first time the distance was run in 54 since the record was established six years ago The winner had the most speed and went to the front easily in the early stages knd under snug handling was only gal lopfhg at the end to stall off Deep Sally which was second to the winner all the way Tipover second choice in the betting was an easy third
