EMPIRE CITY PREPARATIONS PREPARATIONSNumber Number of Improvements Being Rushed to Completion for Open ¬ ing on July 5 NEW YORK N Y June 7 Improve ¬ ments at Empire City are progressing in a very favorable manner declared James Butler Jr popular young sportsman who has succeeded his late father as president of the Empire City Racing Association We have more than a hundred men now en ¬ gaged in making many improvements The track is being reconditioned under the super ¬ vision of Woods Dickinson track superin ¬ tendent at Laurel The grandstand and clubhouse are also being put into first class condition for the opening July 5 I feel sure that every one will be satisfied with the many improvements which we are mak ¬ ing ingThe The summer program will consist of four stakes the Empire City Handicap with 5 000 added money July 7 Knickerbocker Handicap with 2500 added July 14 Yonk ers Handicap with 2500 added July 21 and East View Stakes for twoyearolds with 2500 added at about six furlongs July 28 The other feature will be for threeyearolds and upward They will range in distance from a mile and a sixteenth to a mile and a furlong The Empire City Handicap was cut dovn from the mile and a quarter to a mile and a furlong furlongGeorge George Bull president of Saratoga and Tommy Clare his very able superintendent gave much valuable assistance in planning the improvements improvementsDaily Daily purses will range from 1200 down to 900 The latter will prevail in the plater divisions divisionsThe The ring will be extended under the full length of the grandstand grandstandJohn John Cavanaugh has inspected the new ring and pronounced it excellent
