Offering of Day SALEM N H June 10 An unceasing rain that started falling early Sunday morn ¬ ing and continuing throughout Monday afternoon accompanied by a bleak wind made conditions anything but pleasant at Rockingham Park today Despite the rain and cool wind it was a surprisingly large throng that was on hand to witness the program arranged for their entertainment As a result of the changed track condition the blue pencil was much in evidence the only race not affected by withdrawals be ¬ ing the third thirdThe The fourth race styled the Albany Claim ¬ ing Purse attracted the best field of the aft ¬ ernoon It was also productive of a stir ¬ ring contest when five of the six contestants raced closely grouped for the first three furlongs furlongsH H T Archibald supplied the winner in Candy Maid which scored by a clear mar ¬ gin over Cloud Sweeper from the Brann castle establishment Character from the Jersey Stable on the strength of his well known liking for the soft going was in ¬ stalled the choice but could do no better than finish third after flattering his sup ¬ porters by taking a slight lend soon after tho start There was a mishap In the run ¬ ning when Happy Knot while well up In contention stumbled unseating hla rider approaching the stretch turn turnApprentice Apprentice J Wagner Vaa astride the successful Wcsty Hogan filly and hard Contlnucd on thirtyeighth page SALEM WEATHER INCLEMENT Continued from first page ridden from the start was never far from the leaders Wise Anne also raced well placed in the early running After passing the furlong post Candy Maid wore down Character for the command Cloud Sweeper which had lacked the speed of the others in the early stages was greatly benefited at the stretch turn when the leaders went ex ¬ tremely wide permitting her to save a world of ground groundCandy Candy Maid was kept under urging throughout the last sixteenth and was draw ¬ ing away at the end Cloud Sweeper con ¬ tinued in commanding style and was along to outgame Character at the close Wise Anne had tired and was last to cross the line lineApprentice Apprentice Johnson was not injured in his fall and fulfilled the remainder of his engagements he had made for the afternoon afternoonTody Tody West well suited by the sloppy go ¬ ing had little trouble in handling the plater opposition in the opening race Dove of Peace raced into second place while Great Haste came from back in the running to account for the show position Favorite players suffered a setback here when Queen Vic stoutly supported choice landed in last place placeFormer Former jockey Frank Coltiletti sent out the winner of the second race in the three yearold Balmacan The Macaw gelding was the choice in the six furlongs offering that engaged seven mediocre platers De Valera was a fast closing second while Wee Tune finished third thirdDespite Despite the sloppy condition of the track the third race a juvenile affair at five furlongs witnessed the second favorite of the afternoon to triumph in Sandy Mack The Prince of Wales gelding backed into an oddson choice reached the finishing line a head in front of Tugboat Frank Dream Kiss well placed from the start was an easy third thirdOne One of the closest finishes of the meeting occurred in the fifth race at five and a half furlongs arranged for cheaper platers Jessie D M was returned the winner barely lasting to stall off the closing rush of Im ¬ mune The neglected Debbie was third The winner had the speed to go to the front at once disposed of Flag Bearer and opening up a long lead barely lasted to stall off Immune The Strolling Player filly was un ¬ able to keep up in the early racing but closing with a rush through the stretch was just a nod short of reversing the verdict Debbie was well up all the way and after Flag Bearer dropped back had little oppo ¬ sition for the show position positionMrs Mrs J J Dolan won her first purse of the meeting when Nocturnlabe proved the easiest sort of a winner in the sixth Trailing the winner by eight lengths at the finish Honeysweet from the J U Gratton string raced into second place while Madwind racing for J L Roberts was third thirdNocturnlabe Nocturnlabe was never far from the leader He raced along under steady reserve until near the turn from the back stretch When called upon the Dolan starter went to the front to draw away steadily for the re ¬ mainder of the way Honeysweet on the outside while keeping within striking dis ¬ tance of the leaders continued well to the end though never in a position to offer the winner a threatening bid Madwind was an easy third finishing gamely gamelyGeneseo Geneseo Stable accounted for its second purse of the afternoon when Billowy Wave was an easy winner of the seventh race It also affored apprentice K Knott the opportunity to round out a double having shared in both the Geneseo Stables vic ¬ tories Billowy Wave came from some distance back in tho last three furlongs to overtake Cynwyd in the stretch while Friar Mark was third
