INTEREST MANIFESTED IN DELAWARE CHASES CHASESNominations Nominations to Four Stakes at Wilmington Track Show Gains Over Number Named Last Year YearWILMINGTON WILMINGTON Del May 14 Delaware Park steplechasing which again will dove ¬ tail with that at Belmont Park will get under way as late as Wednesday June 11 with the running of the 2000 Spring Maid ¬ en Steeplechase even though the race meet ¬ ing starts Memorial Day May 30 The pur ¬ pose of starting Delaware Park steeplechas ing after the conclusion of the Belmont Park sport is to insure full fields of jumpers for both race meetings meetingsThe The four Delaware Park steeplechases again have received flattering nominations with F Ambrose Clark originator of the threeply maiden steeplechase plan the lead ¬ ing nominator with twenty The other Dela ¬ ware steeplechase stakes are the 6000 Georgetown Steeplechase Handicap set for Wednesday June 18 the 6000 added Indian River Steeplechase Handicap scheduled for Wednesday June 25 and the 2500 added Vicmead Steeplechase Handicap down for decision on Wednesday July 2 Of course there will be many other overnight steeple ¬ chases and jumping events other than stakes offered throughout the meeting between June 11 and closing day July 5 5Nominations Nominations for the four stalces again are away up the Spring Maiden having re ¬ ceived fifty inominations the Georgetown and Indian River thirtyseven each and the Vicmead thirteen The Spring Maiden was inaugurated last year and is run in three sections the first at Pimlico the second at Belmont Park and the third at Delaware as above mentioned on June 11 11MR MR CLARKS PROPOSAL PROPOSALMr Mr Clarks proposal of the threeply plan in 1940 was received enthusiastically and each of the three races was very successful As leading nominator for the Delaware stee ¬ plechase stakes Mr Clark has six nomina ¬ tions each for the Spring Maiden the Georgetown and Indian River and two for the Vicmead VicmeadThomas Thomas Hitchcock for a generation an outstanding figure in steeplechasing ranks is second with eleven nominations The Rokeby Stable and Mrs Payne Whitneys Greentree Stable follow in order with nine and seven nominations respectively Other heavy nominations are Mrs F Ambrose Clark who maintains her own stable John Hay Whitney Mrs Isabel Dodge Sloanes Brookmeade Stable Richard K Mellon the Grpton Stable Alvin Untermyer JE B Schley and Mrs Esther duPont Weir WeirSome Some of the wellknown jumpers ho are included in the nominations for one or an other of the four stakes are Annibal Sa tilla and Oneeche from Mr Hitchcocks barn Mrs Gwladys Whitneys Rhadaman thus Louis B Mayers Ossabaw G H Pete Bostwicks Sussex Mrs J T Skinners Mad Policy James Cox Bradys Bold Stroke Mrs Clarks Castletown Mr Schleys Oollys Love Mrs Weirs Deanslaw Mr Whitneys Roll and Toss Mr Whitneys Scotch Tar and Rokebys Good Chance
