CONSTRUCT NEW DINING TERRACE AT DELAWARE DELAWAREOther Other Improvements Include More Facilities to Aid and Protect Grooms and Stablemen at Track TrackWILMINGTON WILMINGTON Del May 19 Largest item in the improvement program at Dela ¬ ware Park where racing begins May 30 is the new dining terrace and rooftop prom ¬ enade which will be one of the most elab ¬ orate structures of its kind at any Amer ¬ ican race track Now under construction the new room which is open to the public levels the middle one being the dining space Actually it is a new building with three levels the middle one being the dining space where racegoers may take luncheon and look out at the races at the same time timeThe The principal aim is the furtherance of Delawares slogan of The publics race track In the past it has been asserted that dining facilities for members of the Turf Club a private organization were supe ¬ rior to those available for the clubhouse patron who would pay at the gate just to see the races Such racegoers now will have every convenience convenienceBuilt Built on the end of the grandstand toward the paddock the dining terrace also will have entrances and exits toward the pad ¬ dock and walking ring for quick conven ¬ ience Completely roofed over the dining part of the new structure will be fronted by three terraces where seats are available These are unreserved and open to the pub ¬ lic with no additional charge beyond the clubhouse admission admissionNEW NEW CASHIER BOOTHS BOOTHSThe The terraces where seats are fixed are de ¬ signed so that persons sitting there dp not interfere with the view of persons sitting at tables in the dining room Beneath the dining room on the ground level additional booths have been opened all of them cashier booths Many race tracks have been criticized for having plenty of booths for making bets but not enough for prompt cashing of wagers All of the fourteen new booths beneath the dining terrace will be cashier booths and all are protected from the weather The construction is under the personal personalsupervision supervision of C M Pardee resident engi ¬ neer at Delaware Park who is carrying out the plans completed by William duPont Jr in consultation with architects architectsOther Other improvements at Delaware Park in ¬ clude expansion of facilities for the conven ¬ ience and protection of grooms and stable ¬ men The enlargement of the grandstand a step contemplated at Delaware Park must await a future date because of the impossi ¬ bility of getting steel The girders going into the new dining terrace are of a stand ¬ ard size and pattern easily available How ¬ ever heavier material of special forging is necessary for the lengthening of the grand stand standMuch Much of the work on behalf of the grooms such as a barber shop and sanitary facili ¬ ties has been done in the stable area but one piece of work which will be visible to racegoers on Memorial Day when the track opens will be the new porch protection in the stand reserved for grooms Delaware Park is one of the few race tracks making available for grooms both a stand and a point of vantage from which to see the races The latter space is a small hillock near the paddock where grooms attending horses in the current race may watch watchThe The stand for grooms off duty or at leis ¬ ure is toward the head of the stretch In other years it was an open bleacher stand Now it will be a roofed grandstand with facilities similar to those available to per sons who pay to go to the races
