Dense Path Earns Honors at Suffolk SuffolkLeads Leads Barbara Childs Home By Length in Somerville as Favored Cape Cod Is Third ThirdBOSTON BOSTON Mass June 1 Dense Path an improved daughter of Blackwood and Harmonessa racing in the interest of Charles Rufi registered her most impor ¬ tant victory since her juvenile year in ac ¬ counting for the Somerville Purse The fouryearold came to the end of the mile trip with an advantage of one length over B S Campbells Barbara Childs Cape Cod from the string of G C Greer Son proved a disappointing choice when he was unable to finish any better than third thirdFrom From the start Cape Cod was hustled away from the gate at a sprinting clip and was roused several times to draw into a clear lead Taking Ways chased closest after the leader with the Rufi filly holding to third place just before Kansas Cape Cod continued to increase his lead through the bac kstretch until nearing the far turn and he was almost three lengths to the goodTaking good Taking Ways Drops Back BackTaking Taking Ways dropped back and Dense Path moved up to press the leader closest Barbara Childs who had been taken to the outside when straightened out for the run down the far side of the track also began giving improved speed and raced head and head with the ultimate winner It was not until midway of the turn that Cape Cod began to weaken bearing out slightly slightlyPena Pena took advantage of this and sent Dense Path up on the inside Cape Cod gave up without much of a struggle and soon Barbara Childs also went by him With only a furlong left to be run Dense Path was showing daylight over Barbara Childs Pena kept after the Rufi miss and was still clear when reaching the line Bar ¬ bara Childs continued to draw away from Cape Cod to beat the favorite across the line by a matter of two lengths lengthsApprentice Apprentice Pena chalked up a consecu ¬ tive double astride Dense Path having pre ¬ viously accounted for the fourth race astride Burgoolette BurgooletteA A crowd of 8580 was on hand to witness the program
