REFLECTIONS By Nelson Dunstan The Readers Take Over Column Albany Fan Asks About Saratoga Bill Kyne and War Relief Aid How About Sudden Form Reversal NEW YORK N Y April 29 From Albaily N Y comes the following letter I read an announcement in your paper that Delaware Park which was closed last year will reopen this season If that is the case why cannot Saratoga also reopen In a recent article you stated that racing in Southern California should not be denied because there was racing in Northern California Are not we people in upState New York en ¬ titled to 30 days of racing when those in the New York City area get approximately 150 days GCT Apparently the deci ¬ sion regarding Saratoga is strictly up to Governor Dewey There is a slight chance in our opinion that the upState meeting will be staged on the home grounds It has been charged by many upState people that the Saratoga oficials prefer that tha meeting b held downState due to the greater revenue that will accrue Racing is a state proposition and for that reason we cannot compare Delaware Park with Saratoga Until a week ago we were under the impression that transportation was the main drawback to the Saratoga meeting Lately we hear that it is due to the short ¬ age of food in the Adirondack area Per ¬ sonally we would be satisfied with ona meal a day if we could get back up State a month and see racing under the ideal Spa conditions conditionsBay Bay Meadows Cali Nelson Dunstan New York Daily Racing Form FormDear Dear Friend Dunstan Reading Reflections today and note where you state that you are unable to settle in your mind regarding the racing situation in the West I always was in favor of Hollywood Park opening1 and have been quoted on that for over one year In fact I am more than pleased to see the Hollywood Turf Club making plans for their meeting It is healthy for the sport What I did object to was the possible granting of 80 straight days in the South in conflict witk Bay Meadows as the California Jockey Club had made definite commitments to War Relief organi ¬ zations As you already see by the news stories from here the data difference has been settled very satisfactorily to all concerned Best Wishes WishesWilliam William P Kyne General Manager California Jockey Club Inc 708 East 81st St Chicago III I dont believe I have missed an issue of your paper in 25 years This is the first time I have ever written anyone along these lines so pardon me if I blow off some ac ¬ cumulated steam First What has become of the rule written or otherwise govern ¬ ing sudden reversals of form Up until a few years ago I can recall many trainers called on the carpet to explain sudden im ¬ provement Last one day and first the next is the common practice today I have many many beefs but right now the biggest one is the large number of startling form re ¬ versals No one says a word Has this rule been thrown overboard SGC There is always bound to be form reversals or what appear to be so in the early season when horses who have campaigned in the South hook up with those who have been trained at the winter spots such as Aiken We watch very closely and we cannot subscribe to the theory that there have been wholesale re ¬ versals The stewards watch these things much more carefully than most people imagine and the three races involved iu the Merritt case is an example of that thatYonkers Yonkers N Y YWe We are surprised that a man who has been around racing as long as you have flatfootedly said there is no system that will beat the game Last week you wrote of a man who has been operating a system suc ¬ cessfully for five years It took me ten years to work mine out but during and after 1943 it has shown a handsome profit If you dont be ¬ lieve this can be done I will send you my selections for one month After that time I think you will have to eat crow CBC We have never said that there is not a system that will beat the races What we did say was that we have never seen a system that will beat the races If you have as you claim one that will do the trick by all means send it on Nothing would please us more than to have to eat crow But we are afraid that at the end of the 30 days you will have some crow eat ¬ ing to do for we are very skeptical that you have discovered something that we searched for over a period1 of 20 years
