Fred W Hooper Founding Alabama Breeding Center CenterSets Sets Aside 1600 Acres of His Farm for Thoroughbred Nursery NurseryNEW NEW YORK N Y May 1 Fred W Hooper of Jacksonville who recently joined the ranks of thoroughbred owners and was a liberal purchaser at the recent Lexington yearling vendues plans to in ¬ crease his thoroughbred holdings He said this morning he had set aside some 1600 acres of his Alabama farm to be used as the foundation of a thoroughbred nursery which will be known as Circle H Ranch The property is in the vicinity of Mont ¬ gomery Ala and at the present he has the mares Seminole Lady Countess Abbot Gol ¬ den and Uneeda to serve as the nucleus of his broodmare colony The Wheatleybred Sea Captain a son of Hard Tack and the Whisk Broom n mare Portage is stand ¬ ing at Circle H Ranch and during the past season was bred to the mares Sea Cap ¬ tain raced for the Wheatley Stable under the veteran James Fitzsimmons FitzsimmonsMr Mr Hooper plans to develop Circle H Ranch into one of the better wintering and breeding centers of the southern states He stated that recently a onemile training track had been completed and in future years the horses he will winter will be trained for later engagements over that strip In addition plans for brood ¬ mares stallions and racing barns are drawn and they will be erected as quickly as conditions permit permitThe The thoroughbred farm will be a distinct departure from his cattle interests The latter farm comprises 5038 acres and is known as Hooper Hereford Ranch At the present time 1900 head of prize cattle graze over the luscious acreage The Hooper representatives when shown at state livestock shows carried off blue rib ¬ bons The foundation of the cattle ranch sprang from prize stock purchased in Chi ¬ cago and other noted livestock shows
