Lewis Sees Crack Fields For Inaugural Features FeaturesBoots Boots and Saddle Man o War Handicaps at Detroit May 25 25FAIR FAIR GROUNDS Detroit Mich May 17 With practically all stall space at the local racing grounds allotted and many sizable stables already on hand for the 49day spring and summer meeting which gets under way here on Saturday May 25 general manager George W Lewis and the members of the executive staff are making final arrangements for the inaugural day sport Several outstanding events are scheduled for decision on the opening pro ¬ gram the 10000 Boots and Saddle Hand ¬ icap at six furlongs for threeyearolds and upward the 5000 Man o War Handicap a one mile and a sixteenth test for horses of similar age and the Inaugural Purse a fivefurlong dash for twoyearolds twoyearoldsDue Due to the fact that the handicap divi ¬ sion this season probably will surpass in class that of any other year at the Wood ¬ ward Avenue course Lewis predicted today that the three firstday features will match banner fields Juvenile racing always has attracted attention from Motor City patrons and the younger group of local thorough ¬ breds boasts some unusually fine prospects which have earned their graduation di ¬ plomas at winter tracks Mrs Hernandez Silvers Pride Theodore Buhls Air Com ¬ mander Mrs L B Kinards Elbekay and Mr Kinards Johns Pride are a few of the speedier youngsters expected to answer the bugle in the Inaugural Purse PurseIn In the meantime at the Fair Grounds general superintendent J Oliver Brown is busily engaged in finding quarters for the many establishments shipped here for the Detroit season Euall Wyatt arrived with six horses C T Mullen checked in with nine head H Belk registered a pair G R Slates brought in three and A J Horn came in with six horses he plans to race here throughout the season The aforemen ¬ tioned stables all arrived safely from Cali ¬ fornia augmenting the many units already on hand from Kentucky and Hot Springs SpringsStarter Starter Bryan Steele a veteran with the local organization said today that schooling sessions have been wellpatronized Steele is being assisted by Bill Collingsworth Clarence Mackey and Willard Proctor all veterans of the recent World War Steele and his associates are conducting the schooling daily except Sunday between the hours of 730 a m and 1000 a m
