James Garroutte Now a FullFledged Jockey JockeyAKSARBEN AKSARBEN Omaha Nebr June 3 James Garroutte one cf the more promising apprentice saddlemites of the past year rode his first race on this afternoons program as fullfledged reinsman The popular young riding star gained his first victory aboard Guy and Walter Shultz Rye Grass on this same course exactly one year ago and since has marked up one of the most enviable records ever compiled by a rider during his initial season Following the termination of the 1947 AkSarBen meeting Garroutte under contract to the Shultz brothers who incidentally introduced the sensational Job Dean Jessop de ¬ parted for Dade Park at Henderson Ky where he gained major riding honors in leading the jockey colony in the number of winning engagements In addition to the Kentucky course Gar ¬ routte also showed the way to the more experienced riders at the Fairmount Park and Sunshine Park meetings From June 3 1947 at which time he broke his maiden until Jan 1 1948 Garroutte was astride some 563 mounts of whom 85 finished first 56 second and 63 third
