NOTJfiS xtf THfc XURF. The reason why several horses entered for tho L-atonia race Thursday did not start is thus related in the Enquirer of Friday: "Two "horses, Mr. Brown and Martha Street, had to ba withdrawn from the sec-oud raca, aa well as Arquebus from the closing event, from an unusual cause. The horses named are all stabled at the Newport track. Unfortunately for their owners, the ferry boats by which horses are taken back and forth across the Licking Bivor, like the Shamrock, had broken down. It h td not exactly broken down, but what amounted to tho same thing it sunk some time Wednesday night. It, or a substitute, will ba in good working trim today, and it ia not likely that further trouble will be encountered by the horsemen in having tbeir horses transported across the river." John Bright, the great four-year-old iu the string of Taibot Bros., will not bo seen at the post again this year. The winner of the Decoration Handicap has bean going sore, and while he has shown no Signs of .breaking down, his owners will noi take any chanco of thus permanently injuring him, and will n it attempt to train him furthar this year. The crack colt has baen shipped home and turnad out until next spring.
