Pupil liked the going, was well ridden, and won a well deserved victory. : $ Emigre had clear sailing throughout and came with a terrific rush at the end. He had no i 1 excuses and this is as good as he is capable of doing. Goebel got away well in his stride, showed j a his usual amount of f peed, but hung when the pinch came. Euterpe was badly pocketed in the stretch, otherwise she would have been third. Aloha II. came from a long way back in the last t three furlongs. Lamachus ran a poor race: so did Goldoue. who did not like the footing. Isa- -binds showed some speed, but quit in the stretch. Innovator could not get out of his own way. Scratched— 19169 Belle of Holmdel, 109. Overweights— Isabinda, 14 pounds. Pupil, place. 6 to 5 : show, 1 to 2. Emigre, place, 3 to 1 : show, 8 to 5. Winner— B. g, by The Bard— Equipoise. Went to poet at 3:05. Off at the second break to a good start for all but Silver Garter, who stumbled as the barrier arose. Won easily after an early drive; second, third and fourth were j hard at it. Scales is a good gelding and won in a high-class way. He is a big, long-striding horse ! and was outrun in the first part of the race. When the real racing began he made the others look cheap. Wax was well ridden and did his best, and at the end was a tired horse. Tayon was too much used in the first part of the race. He run6 best from behind and he would have been a keen contender had Enos placed him in the first part of the trip. Lake Mills was coming ! strongly at the end. Silver Garter lost much ground by stumbling at the start, Mellocole showed speed but could not carry it far, Corrected weights— Tayon, 110. Overweights— Mellocole, 2 pounds. Scales, place, 3 to 5 ; show out. Wax, place, 8 to 5 ; show, 4 to 5. Tayon, show, 3 to 5. -inn tZf THIRD RACE— Wood lawn Course. 34 mile and 65 yards. ,000 added. Winner — Br. c, by Iroquois— Sif. Went to post at 3:40. At post -3 minutes. Start good. Won hand ridden and out to the last ounce; second and third were driving hard. Grandon. with a pull in the weights and good racing luck, barely lasted long enough to win. The colt tired badly in the last sixteenth and Knight used excellent judgment in not drawing his whip. Handy Man had a rough journey and ran a good race. Tins seems to be an unlucky colt. Kid Cox could not concede the weight. He got a good send-off, had clear sailing, and no excuse can be offered for his defeat other than the weight. Schoolmaster was shut off when coming out of the chute and also several times during the journey. Telephone Girl appeared dangerous on the far turn, but could not stand the pressure at the end. Battus must have a hard, fast track to do his best. Scratched— . 19308 Vitellius 116. Overweights— Handy Man, 3 pounds; Battus, 3. Grandon, place, 2 to 1 ; show, 6 to 5. The Pride wa6 slow to get to going, but went to the front like a flash at the head of the stretch and won with something in reserve. He is a handy sprinter. Heigh Ho was hardly at her best, but ran a good race and will probably be hard to beat when next out. Abe Furst is in winning form. He looked good, but was inclined to loaf, and Knight had to ride him hard all the way. A rest would be beneficial to Algareta. Georgie and Queen Esher had it hammer and tongs through the first half and both quit in the stretch. Corrected weights -Algareta, 119. The Pride, place, 7 to 10; show. out. Our Nellie got away fully in her stride, showed more speed than she has in any of her recent starts and ran a really good race. She was tiring at the end and could not nave gone much farther. Admetus had no excuses and ran his best race. Caywood rode him with good judgment and made no mistakes. The Bobby, as usual, was right there. Tappan jumped on the horses in front of him on the first turn and went down. No damage resulted from the fall. Scratched-19241 The Devil, 109. Our Nellie, place, evens; show, out. Prosper La Gai improved suddenly and won like a fairly good colt. He interfered with Lake View Belle sharply at the head I of the stretch. Anna Chamberlain took the longest route and made a game showing. Lake View Belle was on the inside, in the worst going all the way. Curd Gillock showed speed, but : never appeared to have a winning chance. It was an ordinary lot and an ordinary race. Prosper La Gai, place, 7 to 5 ; show, 3 to 5. Anna Chamberlain, place, 7 to 5; show, 3 to 5. Luke View Belle, place, out. Curd GiUock, place, evens, show, out.
