CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPAL HANDICAP. The Municipal Handicap was established at Morris Park fourteen years ago as a test race for stayers of high class and has abundantly met the expectations of its founders. For one thing it was in this event that "the fastest mile and three-quarters ever recorded in this country was run when Major Daingerfield won it in 2:57 in 1903. For another it gave that remarkable stayer. Ben Holladay. an opportunity to make nnother sort of record by winning it in 1S97. 1898 and 1899. carrying the steadying impost of 130 noands in the latter two years and giving a surprising exhibition of consistently maintained form. It ha never been won bv a bad race horse, has always produced a rousing good race and has clearly demon-slnitcd that our horses of today are as well able to cover a long distance as were those of days farther i back. Its record is as follows: Year. First. Age. Jockeys. Wt. Second. Age. Wt. Third. Age. Wt. Val.
