GOSSIP FROM CHURCHILL DOWNS DOWNSLouisville Louisville Ky January 31 Carroll B Reid fa ¬ mous as the trainer of such noted horses as The Picket Bangle Sherlock Balk Line Egliart aud Stanton was here a day or two ago to secure a training stable at the New Louisville Jockey Club track for his string of horses which have been turned out since last fall in the blue grass region Mr Reid was assigned stable on the south side of the track and his horses will arrive from central Kentucky at once He has in his string several promising maiden threeyearolds which met with various mishaps last season that prevented them from twoyearoldsLouis racing as twoyearolds Louis Tauber who is training Henderson Hogans big string at Churchill Downs has sent to the farm for Snap and Sorrowful which have been out of training for nearly a year Both have seem ¬ ingly benefited greatly by the long letup This will glvg Tauber nineteen horses to look after the other members of this division of Henderson Hogans stable consisting of tin Kentucky Derby candidate Captain Morris and sixteen twoyearolds Tlie lat ¬ ter are by such sires as Beu Strome Sempronius Oruus Star Shoot Sir Dixon and Mexican and are all around a most promising lot With the excep ¬ tion of one twoyearold now with the Henderson llogan string that is racing in Florida they con ¬ stitute the entire purchases of this firm In the year ¬ ling market of llKrt llKrtW W F Schultes string of horses eight head are npw at the New Louisville Jockey Club track their removal there being necessitated by the recent de ¬ struction by fire of the big training barn at Mr Schultus Jefferson County farm The stable is as usual in charge of trainer It 1 Brooks and in the string are the Kentucky Derby candidate King Olympian Zienap Gliding Belli and a bunch of promising twoyearolds King Olympian especially is getting plenty of attention from the horsemen at the track All concede that the grandson of Domino must be reckoned upon as having a Derby chance as his early racing as a twoyearold marked him i colt of some class Zienap looks sure to train again this yvar Notwithstanding that she is seven years old sho twoyearoldTrainer is as lively as a twoyearold Trainer Pete Coyne has taken up George J Longs tri pf 1910 Kentucky Oaks candidates the bay filly Cellaret the chestnut filly Dominica and the bay filly Foursome which with Longs two Derby can ¬ didates Don Antonio and Rciluf give trainer Coyne five threeyearolds to care for in addition to eight twoyearolds that he has had in hand all winter winterLymaii Lymaii H Davis secretary of the New Louisville Jockey Club writes that II G Bedwell will come to the spring meeting at Churchill Downs with the big ¬ gest string of horses that he has ever brought through Kentucky The California turfman will fol ¬ low the route he did last year race here in the spring and then spend the summer on the New York aud Canadian tracks winding up at Latonia in the fall
