HANSON THE STAR AT BELMONT PARK. Defeats Sam McMeekin Under a Good Ride— Mad -den-Bred Horses Almost Sweep the Card. New York. June 9. — More disagreeable weather greeted race-goers today, but the racing was fairly good. The Blackstump Handicap, at six and a half furlongs, was the best race on the card and developed into a first-rate speculative affair. Hanson, the favorite, was returned the winner ovei Sam McMeekin. Davies. who had the mount on the winner, rode a cracking good race, keeping him in front under slight restraint. Then when Sam McMeekin made a threatening challenge at the eighth post. Davies shook Hanson up and he went on to score handily. Hidden Star and Bonnie Tess. both well backed, failed to cut any figure in tin running. The Brighton Stable scored with another two-year-old recently acquired from J. E. Madden. When Cheer won over ordinary opposition in easy fashion. She was quoted at odds-on. The Madden colors wore Ixirne to the front in the first race when Iriscilla won like a good filly, coming from behind and easily scoring over Alvord. Temptation, well backed, raced disappointingly. Good Counsel scored over mediocre opponents in the second. The Brighton Stable has now won at the first asking with Yellowstone, Woodward and Cheer, purchased from John K. Madden. Good Counsel, winner of the second race, was advanced 00 over his eutered price and protected. The bidder was unknown to any of the horsemen present in the paddock. The license committee of the jockey club hold a meeting at Belmont Bark today. Jockeys J. Wilson and II. Woods were given a hearing, the result of which will lie presented to the stewards of the jockey club for a decision later. Woods and Wilson have been denied licenses for several years, for alleged fraudulent practices. The two grooms who prepared Abdon in his last race, when he raced in dismal fashion, were before the stewards, but no action was taken. R. J. Mackenzie was a visitor at Belmont Park today. John K. Madden bred the winners of the first, second, third and fifth races on todays program. Sam McMeekin pulled up lame after his race in the handicap.
