OMAR KHAYYAMS SHOWING PLEASING His Trainer Predicts that Great Eacer of 1917 Will Kegain Lost Laurels Next Year Baltimore Md Xovember 14 The improved showing of Omar Khayyam in the S10000 Bowie Cup at Piinlieo was a source of much gratification to turf enthusiasts in this section It was the first time this year that the great son of Marco hail shown a real flash of his oldtime form True the Viau champion was receiving considerable weight concession but the fact that he showed he still is capable of going a long route something that lie has not done before this year was the encourag ¬ ing thing in connection with his nice niceIn In earlier races Omar Khayyam had simply curled up from a thoroughbred giant into a disappointment jiot only to his owner Wilfrid Viau but also his trainer and thousands of his former admirers The day that he was defeated in the special race at Laurel last year he was acknowledged to be one of the two best horses of 1917 the other being Ills conqueror Hourloss Many believe that Omar Khayyam was the better of the two and apply good thinkingI reasons for so thinking I really dont know what has been the trouble with the horse declares McXaughton He has been doing well and is looking well yet he has not IHrfontied up to promise I have done everything possible for a person to do with a horse but he is not the racer he was last year for some reason that I cannot figure out He is as healthy as a horse can K sMbly be and works well yet in his races Jie has stopped without any apparent reason reasonI I am confident though that Omar Khayyam will come back next year a different horse to what he lias shown this year I hope so anyhow All racing establishments have their good and bad years This year has been somewhat disappointing for Mr Viau though he was recompensed1 somewhat by the victories of Westy Hogan at Saratoga Xext year things may be different
