SOLLY WAS AN EXTREMELY FAST HORSE The horse Solly which broke down so badly in a race at Latonia Wednesday that he had to be de ¬ stroyed was gifted with speed of the highest order His record is in the main that of ji sprinter but when he was a twoyearold he demonstrated that he could stay as well as run fast At that age at Latonia he won the Queen City = Handicap at i mile in 138 from Pif Jr Leo Ray Chalmers Ed Crump Ormulu and Hank ODay Any twoyear old capable of such an achievement could reasonably be expected to race well at any distance Unluck ¬ ily lie fell so lame in the last race of his two yearold days that he could not be raced as a threeyearold or fouryearold In 1917 he came back to the races and gave some remarkable dis ¬ plays of great speed under heavy weight At the Latonia fall meeting he won thrice in succession at threequarters in 111 111 and 111 and was nearly unbeatable at sprinting But for his infirm legs he would have probably won fame as a truly gicat race horse at all distances His record in racing was as follows followsSolly Solly b h 1912 by Peter Quince Miss Finch War Age Sts 1st 2d 3d Unp Won 1914 2 It 4 5 S 3 4027 1915 o did not race 1911 4 did not race 1917 511 5 1 2 3 4K0 1918 i 9 3 1 0 5 2125 2125Totals Totals 3 35 1
