Y., April 27.— Jockey y Bobby Merritt, grounded for almost two o years, has won his battle for reinstatement it on the New York tracks. A joint board j reviewing the case, consisting of two mem- l" bers of the New York Racing Commission and two stewards of The Jockey Club, ° today returned a decision that Merritt be ,e permitted to ride again beginning next July ly 17, two years to the day since being barred d by the stewards at Empire City. Merritt was accused of "pulling" the ie horse Peep Show to prevent his winning lg and later "riding like Sande come back" in n an effort to win with the same horse. The ie i rider applied for a license to ride in 1943, but the permit was refused. He then ap- : pealed his case to the State Supreme Court, the Appellate Division of which ordered the ruling bodies of the turf to give him a complete hearing. The hearing was opened April 17 and 1 lasted for three stormy evening sessions, ! which the public and press were permitted j I to attend.
