Great Rushs Final Bid Results in Neck Victory VictoryGets Gets Up in Final Yards to Beat Baroque in Bunker Hill Renewal RenewalEAST EAST BOSTON Mass June 17 Closing with a brilliant rush Brookmeade Stables favored and topweighted Great Rush won the tenth running of the 5000 Bunker Hill Handicap at Suffolk Downs today Hard ridden by Jimmy Lynch during the final quarter mile of the eightfurlong test Great Rush defeated Max Marmor steins Baroque by a neck margin while the latter saved place honors by a length and a half over A J Vilones Victory Drive DriveGreat Great Rush a fiveyearold son of Cav ¬ alcade and Squeeze shouldered 115 pounds and completed the mile distance over the slow track in 139 Installed favorite by the crowd of 19952 on hand for the sport the Brookmeade representative awarded those who backed him with a straight tote payoff of 740 In attaining major hon ¬ ors in the Bunker Hill Great Rush won his second major engagement of the year and added 4730 to his earnings earningsBaroque Baroque went to the front soon after the start and crossed his field sharply at the first turn bothering Johnny Jr a bit but hanging on determinedly to a halflength advantage over War Gleam while Victory Drive raced third War Gleam took third during the run down the backstretch and Victory Drive moved up to offer Baroque the stoutest contention During the initial halfmile Great Rush was last but he managed to reach tenth position before beginning his victorious drive driveTurning Turning for home Baroque continued gamely at his task and shook off Victory Drive nearing the finish while Great Rush closed fast on the extreme outside Jockey Gigi Moore did not punish Baroque during the final furlong and he apparently was not aware of the victors belated challenge until too late Great Rush living up to his name and earning the driving triumph in the last few yards Victory Drive held on well enough to save minor honors by a good distance over Coronal who finished strongly
