PROSPECTS AT NEWPORT NEWPORTIn Newport In a letter touching various topics Secretary Gratz Graft Hanly Hanky sends the following interesting items in connection with the approaching meet ¬ ing King at Newport The horses at the Queen City track have win ¬ tered termed well All are looking good and have not had a sick one on the grounds all winter Among owners wintering here are J B Respass Trespass In the older division ho has Goose Liver ch c 4 by Favor Florence M Elusive b m 5 by Sir Dixon Viga Via Covington Coving Ky ch c 4 by El Rio Bey Bevy Hypatica Hepatica Flora Louise b f 3 by Florist Mary Louise Thorpe b c 3 by Onondaga Aurania Paranoia Fred Broens Barons ch g 3 by Panique Antique Nenetzin Sneezing NenetzinThe Ninetieth The 2yearolds in this lot are by such sires as Faustus Faust Hayden Edwards Lord Hartington Harrington and Falsetto The Lord Hartington Harrington is named Judge Tarvin Arvin and is a grand looker lookerW looker W J Smith of Toronto has Vice Regal 4 Johnny Williams 3 Lady Juliet 4 and ten twoyearolds toeholds by such sires as Esher Esther Lord Hart ¬ ington Kingston Spendthrift etc and all of them out of good dams All are looking and doing well and they are a very racy looking lot VW W Worthington has a stable of fourteen consisting of Rampart Princess Teck Tack etc and eight twoyearolds toeholds One of the lot is a half brother to My Maryland being by Jim Gore Palianthus Ailanthus This is a very handsome stylish looking fellow and from looks should race Robert McMillan Macmillan has Winker 4 Albert L 3 and four twoyearolds toeholds one of which is a half brother to French Park Robert Hines has Frisco Ben Tom Hughes and four twoyearolds toeholds T D Carter of Chicago will have ten mostly two yearolds earls one of which is a brother to Dr Sharp and another a brother to The Ace AceOur Racecourse Our opening day will be Saturday April 9 and our meeting will continue twentyone twenty days Judging from the applications for stable room we will have some of the best horses in the west Such wellknown welkin owners have applied for stable room as John E Madden Major EG Thomas Baker Gentry S K Hughes C L Blackburn T D Carter Eugene Leigh Frank Jones J E Gushing and Paul Miles Every thing points to a good meeting We have not completed our official roster One thing the public can rest assured of is that only the most competent persons will bo employed
