GOSSIP OF THE TURF TURFIn TURIn In connection with the decision barring Jolly Roger from starting for the Stallion Stakes at Hawthorne the Cincinnati Enquirer says saysThe sashes The talk that Secretary Hopper and Colonel Tarlton Carlton do not agree with Captain Rees in his ruling in the case probably arose from the fact that on one occasion the Latonia Antonia officials did allow a horse that had been claimed out of a selling race to start in a stake Cuticlene Cuticle who was claimed out of a selling race at Windsor two years ago was allowed to start in the Ripple Stakes at the overtheriver overhear track and won it The party who claimed the horse had secured from his original owner a transfer of his engagements the transfer papers being made out in the judges stand before the race raceLast bracelet Last fall however a horse that had been bought out of a selling race was not allowed to start in a stake at Latonia Antonia LatoniaAt Platonist At the Newport spring meeting Lady of the West won a selling race in which she was en ¬ tered termed at 200 Somebody bid 205 when the mare was offered for sale and Owen Bradley who was training her did not protect her Subse Subs ¬ quently queenly Bradley himself bought the mare back She was in one of the fall stakes at Latonia Antonia but as C D Chenault Health who owned the mare at the time she was bought out of the Newport selling race refused to transfer her engage ¬ ments aments the Latonia Antonia officials would not let her start These are the only cases of the kind that have come up at Latonia Antonia since 1896 and prior to that time the engagements of a horse always went with the horse But as for the decision of Judge Rees in the Jolly Roger case both Judge Tarlton Carlton and Secretary Hopper refuse to ex ¬ press an opinion
