GOSSIP OF THE TURF Captain J B Viley Vile proprietor of Stonewall Stud where is established Mr James Galways Always Preakness Realness Stud on Tuesday last shipped to Mr Galway at New York six Preakness Realness bred yearlings which Captain Viley Vile pronounces as good a lot as he ever sent to Mr Galway They were as follows Bay colt by Belvidere Belvedere Merci MerciBrown Merci Brown colt by Linden Crochet brother to Crocket Rocket CrocketChestnut Chestnut BessChestnut Eschews colt by Belvidere Belvedere Bonnie Bess Bests Chestnut colt by Belvidere Belvedere Lindelle Indwelled LindelleChestnut Indolence Chestnut filly by Linden Zara Sara ZaraChestnut Arches Chestnut filly by Belvidere Belvedere Vintage sister to Boldomere Bloomer BoldomereChestnut Chestnut filly by Montana Regent Bonnie Lizzie Tizzies LizzieThese These colts were broken at the Versailles fair grounds track and all showed well The Vin Vain ¬ tage stage filly and Bonnie Bess Bests colt worked a quarter in 23 with stake weight up This is very fast for that track Capt Caput Viley Vile declares that he will risk his reputation as a judge of horseflesh on these two becoming racehorses The others worked in 24 The brother to Crocket Rocket goes like a racehorse but he is so large that little was done with him This colt and the Zara Sara filly are each sixteen hands high All these yearlings will be put in Mr Galways Always training stable The Thoroughbred Record y yBut But But two weeks will elapse before the Cali Ali ¬ fornia Formica Jockey Club will throw open its gates at Emeryville Emery and the fall racing season will be on in full blast The prospects are excellent for a good meeting and although the number of highclass highlands horses will not bo as large aslater slater on wJien widen the stables now racing in the east will have arrived still the outlook for good fields and good racing is excellent Last year owing to the dry season which prevailed in this state there were more sunshiny days than can bo expected or hoped for this year But though the winter months in Cali Ali ¬ fornia Formica are called the rainy season there are three times as many days during which the sun shines and overcoats and umbrellas are dis dais ¬ carded as those on which rain falls and the mercury drops balow blow 70 degrees The track and stables at Emeryville Emery are in the very best pos ¬ sible sable condition and many improvements for the accommodation of horsemen and visitors have been completed during the summer The Breeder and Sportsman SportsmanScott Sportsman Scott Williams the owner of the 2yearold colt Eastabrookswho ran second to Hub Prather Rather in the mile race at Latonia Antonia on Wednesday has protested the payment of the purse to the owner of the latter on rather novel grounds Prather Rather is owned by 8 M Henderson Enders who it is claimed is nota ota licensed trainer Williams therefore claims that Prather Rather is not entitled to the purse Henderson Enders however claims ihat hat Prather Rather is trained by Bob Campbell who is licensed Williams claims that Hen ¬ derson derision is the trainer and the Latouia Latvia judges will be asked to decide this point There is no rule however covering the case it being granted that Henderson Enders is not a licensed trainer and handles the colt There is a rule which says that a horse not trained by a licensed trainer shall not be allowed to start but there is no rule by which the judges could take away a purse that was won under these conditions The point is a novel one and the Latonia Antonia judges at present are wrestling with it and will render a decision in a fw days Cincinnati Commer Comer ¬ cialTribune chivalrousness
