GOSSIP OF THE TURF. According to the Thoroughbred Record Captain W. H. Mays stable for 1899 will bo as follows : The older horses which have raced are Joe Clark, Ed Tipton, Ernespie, Primate and Jockey Joe the latter a three-year-old maiden. The youngsters which were two years old January 1, 1899. are: Joe Simrall, by Likely Tillie B. Leedstone, by Likely Yendome. Fair Test, by Likely Tube Rose. . Brown colt, by Bersan Mary Anna. George Alexander, by Likely Villetta. Bay filly, by Likely Monarchess. Bay filly, by Likely The Princess. Brown filly, by Likely Lady Dixon. Bay filly, by Donatello Alma Davis. Bay filly, by King Cole Wanda West. Captain May considers Joe Simrall the best colt he ever owned, he having even shown better than the flying Jinks did at the same age. He worked a quarter in 231, and gave the fast sprinter, Primate, forty-nine pounds and beat him in the mad. Captain May says this colt can take 125 pounds and beat any other two-year-old he has with 100 pounds up.
