GOSSIP OF THE TURF. TheFieischmann horses now quartered at East Millstone are in splendid condition, have wintered well, and may be expected to come to hand early fit to battle for some of the big events that start off the metropolitan season. Trainer Tom Welch said Thursday that he was greatly pleased with the outlook for the string, which includes some of tin best in training. Dr. Eichberg has come around all right, and should fulfill the promise which he gave as a 2-year-old in his 3-year-old form. With the other racy individuals in this stable, the lot at Hast Millstone should give a good account of themselves the coming season. Morning Telegraph. The Latonia Jockey Club announces that the spring meeting will beam Tuesday, May 23, and terminate Saturday, June 24. This will give two intervening days after the close at Louisville. St. Louis, the Chicago tracks and Oakley are now the only western tracks with dates as jet unannounced, it being assumed that no meeting will take place at Lexington. There may be none at Oakley for that matter, but it is to be hoped otherwise. Latonia will have twenty-nine racing days. The Derby will be the feature on the opening day and the stakes -will bo run thereafter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Frank V. Alexandre will start the seasons campaign with a string of eleven horses, as follows: Sanders, b. c, 4, by Hanover Constantinople. Tyrian, b. c, 4, by Tyrant Silence. Scannell, br. c, 3, by Sir Dixon Emma Hanley. ieando. ch. c, 3, by Linden Gleam. Lady Exile, b. f, 3, by Exile Kola. Bethel, b. f, 2, by Exile Thora. Etymology, b. f, 2, by St. Blaise Etiquette. Siberia II., b. f, 2, by Exile Meddle. Contra, b. f, 2, by Cheviot Miss Dance. Scarva, b f, 2, by Miser Sea Weed. Sanglass. b. f, 2, by Sam Weller Sunny Locks They are wintering at the old Monmouth Park track in care of Charles Hill who handled the string last season. Mr. Alexandre, who was down recently looking them over, is well pleased with Monmouth as a wintering place. The horses are housed in what was known as the Haggin barn when Firenzi, Salvator and other cracks were gaining wealth and glory for the blue and yellow of the multi-millionaire in the good old days of Jersey-racing. Scannell is, of course, the hope of the stable in the three-year-old division, and with a little improvement over his two-year-old form should be heard from in the stake events in which he is well entered. The two-year-olds are all fillies and while Mr. Alexandre hardly hopes for a Firenzi or a Briar Sweet among them, there should be more than one useful one in the lot. Morning Telegraph. Boport has it that May Hempstead is thriving greatly. She is in Eugene Leighs big Btring. If she is really as good as she was supposed to be last spring her enforced early retirement may turn out a blessing in disguise, since it saved her from the drumming that would probably have otherwise been her fortune. Who knows but what she may now prove the charnpion.filly of the year. i
