MORRIS PARK STAKE ENTRIES. The Morris Park Stakes, that closed February 7, registered a good increase in entries over 1898 The total of the spring stake then was 564. This year it is a total of 819, with a possi bility of belated entries from remote points yet to arrive. The response to the liberal increase of added money to the Metropolitan Handicap was snch as to give it the greatest entry list of its history. Evidently owners are not overlooking their own interests this year. Another central point of interest is the remarkable entry of fifty-seven horses in the Grand National Steeplechase. At first impression it would hardly bo thought so many jumpers are in this country. However, a jumping stake with ,000 added is a new thing in our turf history and will cause many a fair racehorse to be forced to show what he can do over the timber. If a few more such stakes were instituted it would tend to raise the jumping game in importance and popular interest. The stakes and entries ara as follows: Metropolitan Handicap, 3-year-olds and upward, 1 mile 57 Harlem Stakes, 3-year-olds and upward, 1 mile 37 Toboggan Handicap, 3-year-olds and upward.
