NOTES OF THE TURF. After the running of tbe Crescent City Derby on March 25 all George C. Bennetts horses will be in charge of Trainer Dick Stickney. Tom Nepper has ten of the old division with him at New Orleans, and will send Hittick to the post for the Derby. Then the New Orleans contingent will be shipped to Memphis and placed in charge of Dick Stickney, who has been handling the two-year-olds since last fall. The buttons for the members of the New Memphis Jockey Club for 1899 are in the hands of the manufacturers and will be distributed the latter part of March or early in April. The design selected this year is in the shape of a jockeys cap, with the initials M. J. C. and 1899 standing out prominently in enamel. "Horses in Training," 1899, will be published March 25. It will contain a complete list of tbe horses in training including two-year-olds in thia country, giving name, color, sex, age and pedigree, as well as the owner, trainer and stable jockey. Price, .00 in leather, 50 cents in paper binding. Elliott C. Cowdin, btMount Kisco, N. Y., will return to the turf this season with a sterling string of two-year-olds. Mr. Cowdin knocked off racing last year in order to take part in the campaign against Spain. The youngsters are mainly from their owners Kentucky stock farm. George Hendrie, of Canada, has purchased of Edward Fee, of Detroit, the four-year-old mare Our Lizzie, by Cavalier Vim, for 00. Mr. Hendrie expects to race quite a string in the Canadian circuit this season. The local papers of Wednesday published a fable about the Washington Park Club having declared not to give a race meeting this year. Secretary Howard says that no such declaration was made. Ed Trotter is at the Lakeside, Ind., track .with eighteen horses belonging to Louis Ezell and "Kid" Weller. Sixteen are two-year-oId3. Buena Ventura and Virgie Dixon are in the Ezell bunch. January 28, at Appin, a jockey named Thompson won the whole of the seven races on the card, and then won a match, making eight consecutive wins. New Zealand Review. The Lexington track will not be saved for racing. Charles Green of St. Louis, its owner, has decided to cut it up into lots and sell all its buildings at auction.
