GOSSIP OF THE TURF. The Antioch "boss, "which, as favorite, finished an inglorious tenth at Inglesido Friday is not a full brother to the Foster Stables high priced acrobat, Yellow Tail, as the Californian dispatches aver. Antioch is a three-year-old maiden by Watercress La Pomona, one of Ed Corrigans mares. He is probably owned by Mr. Corrigan. Yellow Tails dam is Paloma, an imported mare owned by Burns and Water- 1 j . house, and by The Drummer. She produced Don Clarencio, Miss Rowena and Panamint. La Pomona is a young Longfellow mare out of Geneva, by War Dance, and therefore a sister to Riley. Her produce of 1897 was a brown colt by Watercress. Of Thursdays work of the horses at Memphis Fridays Commercial-Appeal says: "W. H. Laudemans two-year-old chestnut filly Olek-ma, by Onondaga Pixey, is credited with the best work accomplished yesterday- morning, condition of track and other things considered. The filly was sent the four furlongs in 0:51, and did it in a manner that set those who had their watches out to thinking that she will prove a formidable factor in the Ardelle Stakes to be run April 13, in which she is engaged to meet MacieMairee, a youngster well spoken of at Little Rock; Lady Contrary, Insurrection, Muey Chica, Silver Fizz and others who have shown up creditably. Kentucky Colonel and Jolly Roger, two candidates for the Crescent City Derby, to be decided one week from to-morrow, were asked to go the distance, and both negotiated the nine furlongs in 2:00 3 5. Kentucky Colonel carried less weight than the son of Order Happy Sally, and seemed to stop very perceptibly in the last quarter. The fractional time made by Kentucky Colonel was 0:24 1-5, 0:37 1-5, 0:49 3-5, 1:02 2-5, 1:17 3-5, 1:45 4-5, 2:00 3-5. Manuel, the stable mate of Kentucky Colonel, stepped six furlongs in 1:20. Panmure negotiated five furlongs in 1 :06, and Fausturo the same distance in 1:06 1-2. The Kentuckian, E. F. Simms hope for the Tennessee and Kentucky Derbys, was breezed six furlongs in 1:20 1-2, with less than a hundred-pound boy up. Tom Ryans Montgomery Handicap starter, Dunois, was galloped with Dont Skip Me and The Pride."
