NOTES OF THE TURF. Our English correspondent writes that there is much inquiry regarding prospective sales of American yearlings in that country, and from present prospects Mr. J. B. Haggin will have an even better sale than his enterprise afforded him last year. It is understood that he may send about 150 head, and Mr. Horace Theobald, who is his representative, bas been in California and Kentucky looking over the youngsters, and presumably selecting the material for the shipment. It is more than strange that other breeders do not essay the same undertaking. —Spirit of The Times. Prince of Melbourne, winner of the Laureate Stakes, was bred by Col, W. S. Barnes, and sold to C. T. Patterson for ,000 and ,000 out of each of the first two stakes he won. Mr. Patterson has notified him that a check for ,000 on account of the Laureate is on its way to Lexington, The following candidates have incurred penalties in the Suburban Handicap: Banastar, 4 lbs.; Fleur de Lis, 12 lbs.; King Barleycorn, 8 lbs.; Filigrane. 12 lbs. Their weights now are: Banastar, 114: Fleur de Lis, 121; King Barleycorn, 108, and Filigrane, 110. The declarations from the Brighton Cup, at ; two and a quarter miles, up to date, are Oliver ■ Mc, Scottish Chieftain, Sun Dream, Diminutive , and Knight of Silver. The race should be worth ,300 to the winner. Jockey J. Reiff will be seen in England soon, as he is going over to ride for Duke and Wishard, who will campaign a stable composed of Stamina, , Mary Black, Joe Ullman, Ailyar, Paul Griggs and Caneola. Messrs. A. H. and D. H. Morris have sold to F. V. Alexandre the bay colt Contestor, 2, by Galore— Conjectrix, and the bay colt Prestidigitator, two, by Russell— Active. The price is said 1 to be 5,000. E. R. Bradley, of Chicago, has purchased of Dan OBrien the chestnut colt Brigade, 3, by Hayden Edwards— Opal, and the chestnut filly Piccola, 3, by Fonso— Peony . James W. Hendrie, Canada, has purchased of Marcus Daly the three-year-old chestnut colt Gold Car, by Goldfinch— Carina, for, it is reported, ,000,
