NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Jenkins is in St. Louis. This boy developed very suddenly. Speaking of bis work in the clc-ing week at Oakland the Chronicle said : "This boy hung up a record that will not he beaten for many a long day. Last year Tod Sloan succeeded in riding eighteen winners in a week, but Jenkins rode no less than nineteen during the past week, which is certainly a proud record for a boy who could hardly get a mount two months ago." Last week San Francisco Breeder and Sportsman says : "Little boy Reiff has gone to England to ride. He left last Sunday in company with Enoch Wishard. Mr. Wishard took Mary Bicck, Joe Cllman, Stamina, Ailyar, Paul Griggs and Caneolo with him and will, besides these, train Richard Crokers horses in England. Lester Reiff will do the heavy riding for the stable." Banastar was assigned 110 pounds for the Suburban Handicap. By winning the Brooklyn he gained a penalty of twelve pounds, so that his impost for the big Sheepshead Bay handicap is 122 pounds. Even with that weight up he is likely to be the favorite if all goes well with him in the meantime. The famous English broodmare Lilly Agnes, the dam of the imported stallions Ormonde, Rossington and Arklow, was destroyed recently on account of old age. She was foaled in 1871 and was by Maccaroni— Polly Agnes, by The Cure. Constructor Allen last Monday looked over the ground for the proposed new racetrack at South San Francisco, and pronounced it a splendid location for a first-class mile track. Work on the same will probably be commenced in June. Sydney Paget has sold to T. Hitchcock the brown gelding Linstock, 4, by Logic— Blue Stocking, on private terms. Linstock has been schooled over the jumps and is said to be promising for that style of racing. The three-year-old filly, Admiration, recently purchased by Mr. W. C. Whitney, was cheap enough at ,000, as she is about as fast as anything in training. His Royal Highness is a very speedy colt, but in all of his races has shown that he is either not thoroughly trained or is deficient in stamina. Wm. Marry pulled out for Saratoga Sunday May 21, with Rey del Tierra, Three Forks, Tat hill. Flamora, Kickumbob, and several two] year-olds. Jockey Bullman is in New York, where he will ride for Ed Parsei with a second call belonging to W. B. Jennings. • i * , 3 i P . t i- , - ,1 g
