HARLEM OPENS TODAY. This afternoon the first racing of the year at Harlem will take place. Through the unbounded exercise of remarkable energy and unstinted expenditure of money, visitors will find â– accommodations surprising in view of the destruction of the track buildings by fire but a few days ago. Furthermore, they will see good horses ran. The certainty of racing here has drawn owners from tracks east and west until the supply of horses of fair class is all that -could be reasonably expected. All that Harlem can accomodate are at the track or have been assigned quarters that will soon be occupied, while there is an overflow that Hawthornes ample stables furnish a temporary borne. Racing will be carried on at Harlem for two weeks and then Hawthorne will come in for a like period. The two tracks will thus alternate through the season. As secretary of the new organization that will conduct racing at Hawthorne, Harry Kuhl will make the conditions and assign the weights, and a better man for the place could not be found. Altogether the present outlook is for a fairly successf al local season of racing. T. H. Griffins string, fresh from Morris Park, ia at Harlem in charge of Trainer Albert Simons. The horses now here are Egbert, Latch Key, Flonnel, Oxcard, Passe, Maharajah, Izaik and Neuberger. Three more of Griffins horses will arrive in a few days and Tony Hamilton is here to ride for the stable. W. J. Smith came up from St. Louis with the speedy filly Queeu of Song, Vice Regal, a good performer in the mud, and Barrabas, who was a fair two-year-old. McCann will do his riding, Tom Barry brings up Cherry Leaf, Clay Poyn-ter and several two-year olds from St. Louis. F. J. Kelley arrived at the track from the same place with Graziella, Facade, Victor Sum, a maiden three-year-old, and old Beverly . Middleton and Juugbluth have a strong stable at the track in charge of Arthur Newsum. Among the lot are the fast mare, Eugenia Wickes, Afamada, Marcato, Monongah, Amyn-taa, Ostra and six highly-bred youngsters. R. Bradley has a big string at the track in charge of Trainer Flipper. Most of the lot are youngsters by BLitzen and Aloha, Thomas Barrett is on hand with a very strong stable. Bing Binger, now in good shape; Hanan, a recent purchase; Winslow, Teutons, Josephine B. and the two-year-olds, Tommy OBrien, Zeralda, Barrack, Beidenweig, Mono Murphy, Delia Os-traud and Brownie Anderson . The Lake Street Elevated road has made arrangements to carry passengers to the Harlem track direct. Trains will leave State and Lake streets at 1 oclock p. m., 1:10, 1:20, 1:27,1:32, 1:39,1:46,1:53. They will make stops at Madison street and Wabash avenue, State and Van Bnren streets, Pacific avenue and Van Buren street, Madison street and Fifth avenue, and Randolph street and Fifth avenue. I On the Metropolitan Elevated trains will ar rive at Pacific avenue on the loop at 12:59 oclock, 1:11, 1:29, 1:41 and 1:53. These trains will pass the other loop stations at intervals of two minutes. They will connect with the suburban electric cars running to the track.
