. 1 SHEEISHEtD BAT STAKES. The Coney Island Jockey Ciub has announced a great list of rich stakes, to close July 15. In some respects the most important event in the list is the 5,000 Annual Champion Stakes, which will be run for the first time next year. It already has 408 entries and is open for additional entries of the foals of 1898 and first entries of the foals of 1899. The entries it will receive July 15 will no doubt swell the total well on the way to 700. The other stakes are well established fixtures known to all horsemen and will in the main be run off at the clnbs autumn meeting of this year.
