CAXIFOttMA sot ma. j An effort is being made to induca Mr. OB. MacDonongh to exhibit his famous horsa Ormonde at the State Fair this year. If there is an animal in the United States that tbe public desires to see it is the great "horse of the century." Comparatively few Californians have seen the unbeaten champion, he having baen kept at his owners Menlo farm since being brought to this state. It is a foregone conclusion that should he be taken to Sacramento he would easily ba tha leading feature of the exposition, and it is to ba hoped Mr. MacDonongh will permit him to be sent there. John Humphreys will have charge of the betting ring during the Oakland meeting. He will put on several books. There are a goodly number of horses on the grounds being prepared for the coming events. There is considerable sickness among tbe horses at Sacramento. Distemper seems to be the prevailing disease. Lady Ashley, a mare which Tom Griffin brought here, is dying from it. Flashlight is also in very poor haalth. The Directors of tbe State Fair will offer a trophy valued at 00 to be contested for by am a our jockeys. Th race will ba at a mile on the flat. Arrangem nts for the raca are being made under the dirfction of Walter Hobart A cup will also ba offered for a hurdle raca for. ponic3. Breeder and Sportsman.
