GOSSIP Ok THE TUBF. A seven days race meeting is to be held at Toronto, Canada, September 23 to 30, under the auspices of the Country and Hunt Club of Toronto Limited . The following are the stakes to be decided: Great Canadian Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 1 1-4 miles; Imperial Plate Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, 1 1-8 miles; Autumn Handicap, for two-year-olds, 3-4 mile ; Grand International Steeplechase, about 2 1-2 miles; Canadian Hunt Cup, handicap steeplechase, for Canadian qualified hunters, about 2 1-2 miles; DAlton McCarthy Memorial Plate, hunters flat handicap, 1 1-2 miles, and Military Cup, 1 1-2 miles. The very successful, in some respects sensational, two weeks meeting at Harlem ended Saturday with a good card and capital racing Hawthorne will now enter on a similar term of which the principal feature will no doubt be the four mile dash next Saturday. Monday being Labor Day a huge crowd is expected at Hawthorne and for the better accommodation of those who will throng to this popular course arrangements have bean made with the Illinois Central, Burlington and Metropolitan elevated roads to run extra trains to the track beginning at 12:50 p. m. A full course steeplechase and a dash of a mile and a half will be among the attractions of the day. With fine racing weather, abundance of good horses, a great increase in tho number of capable riders and well arranged programs, there is every reason to expect a continuation of the remarkably prosperous local turf season.
