MEMPHIS STAKES. Of the western clubs the New Memphis Jockey Club is first in the field with the announcement of its stakes for its spring meeting of 1900. In addition the conditions of the Tennessee Derby and Oaks of 1901 are offered. A SDecial to yesterdays Tribune Bays: "The new Mfmphis Jockey Club has announced the etakes to be decided at the meeting at Montgomery Park in 1900. Eleven fixed events are offered, rsine of which close on January 1, 1S00. Tbo Tennessee Dei by and Ten-neEEee Oaks for 1901 also close on that date. Of the stakes that close next January four are for two-year-olds, three of which have ,C00 added, end to the other there has been added C0. In place of the New Gayoso Hotel Stakes has been substituted the Lumbermans Stakes. The New Gayoso Hotel Stakes was a guaranteed event, but as thelccal association has decided to absndon all guaranteed events the change will be appreciated by trainers and horsemen in general. "The new stekn, the Lumbermans Stakes, has 00 added money and should be worth in the neighborhood of 31, C00 to the winner. "The Turf Congross Stakes is also a new event offered by the Memphis club next spring. This stake will take the place of the Luehrmann Stakes, and, like the Luehimann, will be for three sear-olds. The Turf Congress Stakes has ,000 added money, half of which iB added by the club and the remainder by the Turf Congress. Five hundred dollars of this amount will be divided between the trainers and jockeys of the first three horses at the finish. This stake is destined to become one of the most popular of the local fixtures on account of the unique conditions. "Three stakes are offered fort hree-year-olds and upward, the Montgomery Handicap, the Peabody Handicap and the Tennessee Brewing Stakes Belling. "The Montgomery Handicap laBt spring produced a sensational race between Manuel, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, and Dunois, the latter getting the verdict by a head. The Montgomery was also the richest event offered in the west for three-year-olds and upward. The Peabody this year has ,000 added. In addition to these eventB mentioned there is also 00 added to the Cotton Steeplechase Stakes."
